Young People's Film Project

Young film makers worked with Bill Lazario a film director and other film professionals to make a short film based on the themes of Claras Story and Ashburton's rich and diverse history. It was was scripted filmed and directed by the children involved.

Claras Story tells the tale of a girl who grew up in the town during the Civil War in the mid-1600s. The free film workshops were run for one week in April 2009.The workshops were open to young people in and around Ashburton, no previous experience was required and a diverse mix of children from 10 to 17 years signed up for the course. Training was given in scripting, performing, camera work, sound recording and video editing.

The completed film was shown in Ashburton in June 2009 and was also shown at Portobello Film Festival, London in September 2009.
